Free Store

A thriving and very active component of the Hornby Island RecycleDepot is our Free Store.

The Free Store is run entirely by volunteers, without them this amazing place wouldn’t exist. We have an amazing and dedicated team sorting and helping patrons each week. Please thank them when you go in and treat them with respect.

We appreciate your donations of clean, working items; rip- and stain-free clothing; and mold-free books.

To help our Free Store run smoothly for everything please remember a few things:

Please give all donations to a volunteer and do not leave them outside.

Please keep an eye on your kids when you’re in the Free Store, there are lots of interesting things to explore in here but they’re not all kid friendly. Things like old dirty shoes, smelly socks, toothpaste, pottery, glass and many, many more.

Please pre-sort your Free Store donations. Our volunteers spend a lot of time sorting through your generous donations so please help lighten their load. Take the time to remove any broken items, ripped/soiled/moldy clothing, and moldy books before you drop them off.

Sometimes the Free Store becomes too crowded from our helpful community. When this happens we send some of the excess to a thrift store in town. If you are heading in and have room for a bag or two of clothing, please ask a volunteer if you can help.
